Haitijuanenses opens Saturday at the Tijuana History Museum
The exhibition opens September 26 at 3 p.m., with Spanish and Haitian Creole materials, as part of the Miradas Fronterizas festival.
The Haitian community’s place in Tijuana’s history will be the focus of Haitijuanenses, opening Saturday, September 26. El Colef and the city both list a 3 p.m. local-time opening at the History Museum inside the former City Hall. The municipal announcement was published September 22.
El Colef describes the exhibition as a way to place Haitian experiences within the city’s shared history. Materials will be available in Spanish and Haitian Creole. Memories and testimonies bring together work by IMAC, the municipal Culture Secretariat, Espacio Migrante and El Colef.
The opening is part of the thirteenth Miradas Fronterizas festival. The municipal program lists free admission from 2 to 8 p.m., music and food stalls from several communities. Free admission refers to entering the festival; the notice does not say that food will be free.
The federal cultural directory places the former City Hall at Segunda and Constitución streets in Zona Centro. The 3 p.m. appointment is the exhibition opening; the festival begins an hour earlier. The reviewed announcements do not specify when the exhibition will close.
